South African Citizenship
The Embassy offers the following assistance with the following
document services to citizens and immigrants:
South African Passport
PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
- The processing of passports is done by the Department of Home
Affairs in South Africa. The Embassy only receives passport applications
on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs and has no influence
over the time that Home Affairs has stipulated for such applications
to be processed - 3/4 months.
- Our experience is that the process may take up to six (6) months
to complete - given the fact that passports, once issued, have
to be returned to the Embassy via the diplomatic pouch, which
travels between South Africa and the Mission once every two (2)
weeks.
The Mission receives numerous enquiries and requests from South
Africans who need their passports for various urgent reasons after
two (2) months or so. There is very little the Embassy can do to
speed up the process. and Therefore we urge you to apply well in
advance.
One suggestion that may assist is to apply for a temporary passport,
which can be issued by the Mission, after 5-7 working days, while
the application for a permanent passport is being processed in South
Africa.
