Here you will find all
the information and important links you may need about the political,
economic and social landscape that make up the Republic of South
Africa.
South African - Indonesian relations were formalized through the
establishment of diplomatic relations in August 1994. The Embassy
was established on 17 January 1995. However, our relations stretch
back to the 17th century, when the Dutch colonized both the Cape
of Good Hope and the East Indies (Batavia). Sheik Yusuf, from Ujung
Pandang (Makassar), was sent as a political exile by the Dutch to
the Cape of Good Hope, arriving there in 1694. It was then that
the foundation for the Malay community that today exists in the
city of Cape Town, was laid.
